So menopause is when your periods stop, simple right?
Unfortunately, it’s not that simple,
Most women will experience menopause symptoms:

  • Hot flushes
  • Night sweats
  • Disturbed sleep pattern/Difficulty sleeping
  • Low mood
  • Anxiety
  • Weight gain
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Low sex drive
  • Problems with memory
  • Problems with concentration

These symptoms will vary for everyone, but some may be quite severe and impact ladies day to day living.
Symptoms can start well before periods stop, it can start from 4 years before periods stop for some it can start up to 7 years before menopause. This is known as perimenopause.

Getting advice and help during this time is very important, the menopause can happen anytime between 45 & 55 the average age is 51 but everyone is different.
During this time ladies, oestrogen levels drop. Estrogen is important in bone health, so doing some form of weight-bearing exercise during this time is important to help keep the bone density up.
